Cybertruck Accident Shocker: Minor Injury Despite Dire Expectations
On June 15th, 2021, the first reported crash containing a Tesla Cybertruck was revealed to the public. While the incident was reportedly minor, it still created a stir of controversy and speculation amongst Tesla enthusiasts everywhere.
The crash occurred in Sunnyvale, California. According to the police report, the Cybertruck had been traveling at approximately 40mph when it collided with a car stationery at a traffic light. It was reported that the driver was the only person in either vehicle and that she sustained only minor scratches and bruises, although has been admitted to hospital for observation.
Tesla, trading off everyone’s keenness to hear their official statement, quickly released a press release implying that the crash was minimal and was down to “human error” rather than any defect in the Cybertruck’s operating system or engineering. Despite the negative implications of this incident, the reaction to Tesla’s statement has been largely positive; many being impressed with the apparent safety of their newest model.
Looking further into the incident, it did raise some questions about how the crash occurred; reports have indicated that the vehicle did not have any Autopilot engaged, implying the crash was purely down to driver error. Additionally, it is unclear what the primary contributing factor was; either an overreaction from the car’s driver, a defect in the car’s sensors and/or an underlying problem with the car’s engineering.
Overall, this crash appears to have been an isolated incident and unlikely to hinder the popularity of the Cybertruck’s release. If there are no further issues, then the car could still perform as well as expected once it’s out. In the mean time, Tesla has emphasised that they will take any necessary steps to ensure the safety of their current and future customers.
As the world of self-driving vehicles continues to accelerate, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and responsibility. Any user of a vehicle should remain aware of their surroundings and ensure that they know how to safely operate the vehicle. After all, safety should always be the first priority, regardless of the vehicle in question.
